Men’s Advancement Program
The Men’s Advancement Program is an 18-month program that addresses the employed, but chronically homeless men by providing them with the means to overcome the two most critical circumstances that prevent them from maintaining long-term financial stability and permanent housing—excessive debt and inadequate work skills. This program provides these men with a steady housing base, financial training, case-management and counseling to support them in their efforts to work, pay off their debts, upgrade their vocational skills and ultimately find permanent housing and financial stability. The primary goal of this program is to enable these men by the end of their 18-month stay to have significantly better paying jobs with an increase in earnings of at least 10 percent, and by an additional 15 percent in the following two years.
By the end of their 18-month stay participants will have:
- Developed realistic goals for future employment and financial stability
- Learned important practical skills for living outside a structured group shelter
- Eliminated their indebtedness and established plans for their ongoing responsibilities to children and family members
- Improved their vocational skills to have significantly better paying jobs with increased earnings of at least 10 percent at the end of the program, and an additional 15 percent in the following two years
- Found and moved into permanent housing.
