Why be a Counselor at Circle V Ranch?

  • Give local children a possibility of a life changing experience of a week at summer camp.
  • Give children an opportunity to sing camp songs around a campfire, hike, sleep in a cabin or tent, do arts and crafts, go to the beach, swim at our pool, learn about nature and meet new friends.
  • Have an excuse to spend the summer at camp and act like a kid again.
  • Mentor a child and possibly inspire them to succeed in school and college.
  • Meet a great group of people who share the same goals with you.
  • Take part in an organization with over 65 years of camping tradition.

We appreciate your interest in The Circle V Ranch Camp, and please realize from the beginning that working at camp is more than a job! Although extremely rewarding, it is a job that requires a lot of hard work and can be very challenging and difficult at times, but is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience for your future endeavors, make life long friends, and a wonderful opportunity to grow in the knowledge and appreciation of yourself, others and mother nature.

The Job

A job as a Circle V Ranch wrangler or staff member is extraordinarily demanding and you should only consider applying for a position if you love working with children. Life at camp requires staff members to sacrifice their normal living habits and serve as role models to our campers. This job is not for everyone! Successful counselors are dynamic, energetic and patient people who thrive on being outdoors and recognize that children need support and encouragement to be responsible adults.

Impact the lives of Children

A job at Circle V Ranch is an opportunity to have a lasting positive impact on the lives of children. Circle V Ranch serves children from Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, of which 98% attend camp on a campership. We work with foster care agencies, Catholic Charities, migrant worker programs and many other social service agencies. Our goal is to give kids a chance to get our of the City, and for some, a break from their difficult situations at home to have a week of serious fun. You will be asked to be a leader and role model for a group of young people twenty-four hours a day. Your campers will want you to play with them, tie their shoes and talk about life. They will want you to be their friend and confidant. You will also need to be mature enough to tell a camper “no” and handle the temporary tension this creates between the two of you.

Life Long Friends

While role modeling for campers is the most important aspect of your job, being a counselor also provides an incredible opportunity to develop friendships with other staff. Circle V Ranch is a very close knit community and there is something special about living and working with people who share your enthusiasm for working with children. Our returning counselor’s love staff week where they have an opportunity to reunite with the friends they have been emailing all year. At the end of the summer you will be amazed at the friendships you have made.
