Homelessness Statistics

According to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) 2019 Homeless Count:

  • Homelessness in Los Angeles County increased 12% to 58,936 in 2019 from 52,765 in 2018 according to the Point In Time Count in June 2019
  • 75% of the homeless population was unsheltered in LA County (44,214) vs 25% Sheltered (14,722)
  • Youth homelessness increased by 24% from 3,164 in 2018 to 3,926 in 2019

However, the good news is that:

  • 21,631 formerly homeless individuals moved into housing in 2018, a 23% increase from the previous year and more than double from 2014
  • Veteran homelessness slightly decreased from 3,886 in 2018 to 3,874 in 2019
  • 18,895 housing placements in 2018 – including 2,824 veterans, 2,050 youth and 1,426 seniors housed
