It is no secret that St. Vincent de Paul, Los Angeles is L.A.’s largest thrift store. Though many people do not know, we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization who is depended on by people in need throughout Los Angeles and the surrounding communities. In 2020- 2021 alone, we exceeded our mission to serve people in need locally and globally to over 500 individuals, including families, veterans, women of domestic abuse, and the unhoused. This assistance comes in the form of paying rent, helping the jobless find jobs, referring people to the proper assistance or programs, donating food to low-income families, and helping the unhoused find shelter. We even helped renovate a church in the Philippines and contributed a daily allowance of food and board to 20 students.
When you shop at SVdPLA, you’re doing more than finding that statement piece you’ve been looking for at a discounted price. You’re supporting our charitable cause. In fact, we heavily rely on store revenue to support our many programs, such as: a men’s shelter and community center in Skid Row called the Cardinal Manning Center, funding a child’s dream of attending summer camp at Circle V Ranch Camp, rent payment assistance program, food donations, and more. We also provide store vouchers for those in need allowing individuals to shop for essentials and any items needed.
Another big reason that makes our work possible is our generous community who give back to our organization. All donations we receive are essential to keeping our programs running. Whether it be monetary donations, donations of goods for thrift stores, and donations of food or essential items, we ensure it is used towards helping people in need. We accept donations year-round, making it easy for people to drop off donations at the store, with bins near the front of stores and a loading dock available for all. We even offer free donation pick-up services for bulky items. We especially welcome clothing, shoes, accessories for the whole family, home appliances, dishware, electronics, and more. Our Los Angeles location accepts used cars, and we will provide a tax-deductible receipt. While most donations are accepted, we’d like to disclaim a few things we cannot accept; click here to view a complete list of accepted and items we do not accept.
A special thanks to our valued patrons for allowing us to help others year-round. Whether shopping at St. Vincent de Paul Los Angeles thrift stores, donating items, monetary donations or all, you truly impact our beautiful community. We could not provide the level of assistance without your support. Next time you clear out your wardrobe and clean your house, please consider donating gently used items to our stores. Together, we make a difference!
