On Sunday, September, 27th, 2020, the feast day of our patron, St. Vincent de Paul, SVdPLA celebrated our dedicated Vincentian Volunteers at the first-ever Virtual Annual Meeting.
We had the pleasure of having President General of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, Renato Lima de Oliviera, as our keynote speaker. Thank you, Mr. Lima de Oliviera for sharing your time, wisdom, and encouraging words with our staff and volunteers.
Congratulations to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Conference in Pasadena who took home the Ozanam Conference of Charity Award for their outstanding work serving those experiencing homelessness and poverty. Although our Annual Meeting could not be held in-person this year, it was a worthwhile event that detailed how impactful our volunteers are.
2018-2019 Statistics
In the 2018-2019 fiscal year, 38,972 home visits were conducted to 75,533 people in need to assist them with bills, food, clothing, furniture and more thanks to the dedicated work of our volunteers in LA, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. Additionally, 2,579 families were provided with free clothing and furniture from our Free Distribution Program.
Thank you again to our Vincentian Volunteers for their passion and dedication to helping those in need.
“You will find out that Charity is a heavy burden to carry, heavier than the kettle of soup and the full basket. But you will keep your gentleness and your smile. It is not enough to give soup and bread.
This the rich can do. You are the servant of the poor, always smiling and good-humored. They are your masters, terribly sensitive and exacting master you will see. And the uglier and the dirtier they will be, the more unjust and insulting, the more love you must give them. It is only for your love alone that the poor will forgive you the bread you give to them.” ―St. Vincent de Paul
